Illinois Lawyers Go Out West To Address Trends In Asbestos Suits
From the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin
The rising number of lung cancer lawsuits is among the topics at an upcoming asbestos litigation conference.
"About 20 percent of the new case filings nationally are lung cancer claims," said Timothy L. Krippner, a Segal, McCambridge, Singer & Mahoney Ltd. shareholder who defends large companies against asbestos claims.
Some new plaintiff firms "are more vigorously exploring those (lung cancer) claims," he said. The "Cutting-Edge Issues in Asbestos Litigation Conference" is on Monday and Tuesday in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The conference co-chairmen are Krippner, John D. Cooney — a partner at Cooney and Conway — and Jeffrey B. Simon, a Dallas plaintiff lawyer with some pending asbestos cases in Cook County.
"This conference is important because it brings together practitioners from both sides to discuss the litigation that has consumed so much judicial and legal effort over 35 years," said Cooney, a plaintiff attorney.
The conference's initial panel discussion is about "The Top Emerging Trends in 2013 Asbestos Litigation." Panelists include Perry J. Browder, a shareholder at Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides & Barnerd LLC in Alton and William F. Mahoney, a Segal, McCambridge shareholder.
