Disgraced St. Clair County Judge To Start Prison Term May 28

A federal judge has ordered disgraced former St. Clair County drug court judge Michael N. Cook to report to prison on May 28 to begin serving his 24 month sentence.
The order, filed by U.S. District Judge Billy Joe McDade, did not specify which prison will hold Cook. However, McDade recommended that Cook be placed in one of three federal prisons: in Montgomery, Ala., Pensacola, Fla., or Estill, S.C.
McDade also recommended that Cook get drug and mental health treatment while incarcerated.
Cook was sentenced last month after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of heroin possession and a felony charge of being a drug user in possession of a firearm. He owned guns but there was no allegation that he used one in a crime.
Meanwhile, a retrial started this morning for Gregory Muse, 55, whose previous guilty verdict of murder was thrown out because Cook had presided over the trial.
