All Illinois Courts Will Get To Use E-Filing

The Illinois Supreme Court today paved the way for the electronic filing of documents in civil cases throughout the state.
The high court lifted the pilot program designation from e-filing and will now let all the state's circuit courts pursue systems that manage digital submission of paperwork.
Chief Justice Thomas L. Kilbride said in a statement that Illinois remains behind on using technology in courts and that e-filing "is no longer part of a wish list."
"Circuit courts may now use e-filing's greater efficiencies and long-range cost savings, in addition to offering a modern way of doing things," he said in the statement.
The high court order doesn't require counties to begin e-filing or to use a specific vendor or software, but instead lists the standards a system must meet if a county chooses to adopt one.
A county's chief judge and clerk must agree on a system and apply to the Supreme Court for approval, the order says.
