Woman To Plead Guilty In Courthouse Drug Scandal
From the Belleville News-Democrat
A defendant in the courthouse drug scandal is scheduled to plead guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute heroin.
Deborah A. Perkins, 65, is scheduled to change her plea on Thursday afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Steve Williams.
Perkins is accused of conspiring with Douglas W. Oliver, Perkins' son, and Sean McGilvery, 34, to purchase heroin. A federal court document stated that McGilvery contributed $20,000 toward Perkins' purchase of $50,000 worth of heroin in Chicago. Perkins returned on a bus, divided the heroin and returned to her home on Kassing Drive in Fairview Heights.
Former St. Clair County Circuit Judge Michael Cook was arrested by federal agents outside McGilvery's house on North 38th Street in Belleville on May 22. He was charged with misdemeanor possession of heroin and a felony county of being a drug user in possession of a firearm.
Cook resigned from the bench after his arrest and agreed to the suspension of his law license. Cook, 43, remains in a Minnesota treatment facility. His trial is scheduled for Oct. 1.
