Despite Financial Woes, Illinois Still Hiring

Illinois may have massive financial problems, but that doesn’t mean the state isn’t hiring.
The state has hired 1,203 employees since the beginning of the current fiscal year July 1.
Many of the new employees are replacing older workers as the Baby Boom generation heads into retirement.
The push to fill vacant jobs is evident at the Illinois State Police, where 60 men and women are in Week 5 of a 25-week marathon of training aimed at preparing them for life as a state trooper.
With up to 100 officers expected to retire in the state’s current fiscal year, the Illinois State Police training facility in Springfield is buzzing with training exercises and classes for cadets.
State police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the cadets will someday join the 1,800 sworn state police officers.
