Madigan Leading Quinn, GOP Undecided In Race For Governor
From Crain's Chicago Business
As decision time nears for potential candidates for governor, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan holds a big lead over incumbent Pat Quinn among Democrats. But no Republican yet has moved the needle much.
The latest Crain's/Ipsos Illinois Poll found that Ms. Madigan holds a 2-to-1 lead over Mr. Quinn among those who identified themselves as a Democrat or an independent. But the lead is only 30 percent to 15 percent, with 39 percent saying they don't know yet who they'll support.
That likely indicates that while Mr. Quinn is in some trouble, the race is still volatile and the final outcome uncertain.
Four percent of those surveyed said they would vote for an “other” candidate in the 2014 Democratic primary. The only other Democrat known to be considering a race is former U.S. Commerce Secretary Bill Daley, but he has told associates he will not run if Ms. Madigan does, and she has told insiders she is running.
If Ms. Madigan has a clear lead among Democrats, Republicans are nowhere near a consensus.
Among those who identified themselves as Republican or independent, State Treasurer Dan Rutherford and Bill Brady, a state senator who was the party's nominee in 2010, tied at 12 percent. Trailing them were Chicago businessman Bruce Rauner at 6 percent, U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock at 5 percent and state Sen. Kirk Dillard at 4 percent.
Nearly half the sample, a whopping 49 percent, said they don't know yet who they support.
